Windscreen smashed by object falling from Perth bridge

Police are investigating after an object fell from a pedestrian bridge across the A9, smashing the windscreen of a car passing below.

The woman driving the 4x4 under the bridge on the Western Bypass, near Perth, managed to stay in control of her car and was uninjured.

Tayside Police said she was shaken by the "suspicious" incident, which took place at about 17:50 on Wednesday.

Officers searched the area afterwards, but no-one was found.

A rock or similar object bounced off the bonnet of the car before smashing the windscreen.

A spokesman for the force said: "Thankfully the driver maintained control of the vehicle and reported the matter to us. The driver was obviously shaken but uninjured.

"The area was searched by police. However, no-one was traced.

"Although the incident is unexplained it is suspicious and inquiries continue."

The spokesman added that officers were keeping an "open mind" over whether the damage was caused accidentally or maliciously.
