Man who killed Daniel Thomas in Galashiels dies in jail
A man jailed for killing a man he wrongly suspected of being a paedophile has died in prison.
Richard Barnes was convicted of the murder of Daniel Thomas in Galashiels, in the Borders, in October 2003.
Barnes' brother, Russell, was also found guilty of the murder. The pair were sentenced to life after a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.
The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) said Barnes, 38, died at HMP Glenochil on Saturday.
During the murder trial, the court was told there was not a "shred of evidence" that the murdered man had ever acted improperly towards a youngster.
Police have been notified of the death, the SPS said.
