A teacher who received an absolute discharge after assaulting two pupils has been barred from his profession.

Mike Barile was struck off after the General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS) examined complaints from pupils and teachers over a two-year period.

Mr Barile was convicted of assault in 2008 after an incident at Lawside Academy in Dundee.

The Appeal Court gave him an absolute discharge after concluding that he had been severely provoked.

But the GTCS has ruled that the Maths teacher should not be allowed to work with pupils in any school.

It had looked into allegations of threatening behaviour at Lawside Academy and at another school, Madras College in St Andrews.
