Dundee woman dies after home break-in

A 75-year-old woman in Dundee has died just hours after discovering her home had been burgled overnight.

The woman's house in Kirkconnel Terrace was broken into between 22:30 on Sunday and 06:50 on Monday.

Police officers went to the house in the morning after the theft of money and a leather cigarette pouch was reported.

They were called back with paramedics at 14:00 after the woman became unwell, but she died in her home.

Tayside Police said officers had left the woman in the morning with family members after carrying out initial inquiries at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman for the force said: "'Clearly these are a tragic set of circumstances and our thoughts are with the family at this time.

"Inquiries into the theft from the address are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who was in the area and who saw or heard anything suspicious to call Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222.

"Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
