Police are searching for a violent offender who has gone missing from an open prison near Dundee.

Stuart Govan failed to return to Castle Huntly jail on 22 February after being allowed on a day out in Perth.

The 24-year-old, from Falkirk, was sentenced for 16 months in prison in February 2011 after being convicted of assault to severe injury.

Tayside Police have appealed to anyone who knows Govan's whereabouts to contact them immediately.

The missing prisoner is 5ft 9in tall, of medium build with a fair complexion, red or auburn hair and blue eyes.

He was transferred from Glen Ochil prison to open conditions at Castle Huntly in December 2011.
