The trial of a man accused of murdering his wife then crashing his car into a lorry is due to take place in June.

Jane Cumming, 40, died in the couple's home in Longforgan, Tayside, on 15 July last year.

Neil Cumming, 46, is accused of repeatedly striking her with a knife or similar instrument and of dangerous driving on the Perth to Dundee road.

Lawyers are still considering medical reports on Mr Cumming, who is being held in the State Hospital, Carstairs.

During a brief hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh on Wednesday, defence QC John Hamilton suggested that psychiatric evidence could be heard on the first day of Mr Cumming's trial.

Judge Lord Woolman ruled that the trial date should be set for 22 June at the High Court in Glasgow.
