Man dies after glider crash in Kinross

A man in his 40s has been killed in a glider crash at an airport in Kinross.

Emergency services were called to the Scottish Gliding Centre at Portmoak Airfield shortly after 13.30.

The man was found upside down inside the aircraft and despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. No-one else was hurt.

It is understood the aircraft was in the process of taking off and was only a matter of feet off the ground when the incident happened.

An investigation, involving Tayside Police, the Air Accident Investigation Branch and the Civil Aviation Authority, is being carried out to establish the full set of circumstances surrounding the incident.
