Dundee woman accused of making false sex attack report

A woman is to stand trial accused of wasting Tayside police officers' time by making a fake sex attack report, a court has been told.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard Kelly Ann Herd is accused of falsely representing to officers Scott McGechaen and Iona McIntyre that she had been the victim of a sexual assault.

The 36-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge on summary complaint.

Sheriff George Way set a trial for February next year.

He also ordered her to appear for a pre-trial hearing in January.

Police said they had "devoted their time and services" to investigating Ms Herd's claim which "rendered the lieges liable to suspicion and accusation of sexual assault".
