Clackmannanshire pupils given high visibility backpacks

Primary one pupils in Clackmannanshire are getting an early Christmas present from the council in the form of a bright yellow backpack.

The school children will be given high visibility rucksacks to help improve their safety in the dark winter mornings and nights.

The backpacks were purchased after Clackmannanshire Community Wardens were awarded additional funding.

More than 700 children from local schools will benefit from the scheme.

The first of the new backpacks were handed out to pupils at Clackmannan Primary by education convener, Cllr Ellen Forson.

She said: "It is important that all primary one pupils in the county receive these bright yellow backpack in order to provide better pedestrian safety for these children during the dark winter months."
