Ninewells Hospital ward closed after norovirus outbreak

A ward has been closed at Dundee's Ninewells hospital following an outbreak of norovirus.

NHS Tayside said Ward 17 has been shut to new admissions after several cases of vomiting and diarrhoea were reported.

The health board said the move was a precautionary measure and infection control measures had been put in place.

Meanwhile, Ward 3 at Perth Royal Infirmary has been reopened after several cases of norovirus.

The virus, also known as winter vomiting disease, causes vomiting, stomach cramps, fever and diarrhoea, and is easily spread from person to person.

NHS Tayside is advising anyone who might be feeling unwell or experiencing vomiting and diarrhoea not to visit friends and family members in hospital until they are free of all symptoms for at least 48 hours.
