Closed M9 The M9 was closed northbound after the woman's body was discovered

Investigations are under way after the body of a young woman was found under a bridge on the M9 in Stirling.

The discovery was made by a passing motorist at about 07:00 on Tuesday morning. Police have appealed for information.

The motorway was closed for several hours to allow officers to examine the scene.

A spokesman for Central Scotland Police said the woman had not yet been identified.

Ch Insp Gordon Dawson added: "We are keen to hear from anybody who was on the M9 between 06:15 and 07:00.

"We are particularly keen to hear from anybody who may have seen a young woman close to the motorway or on Birkhill Road bridge, in Cambusbarron, which crosses the motorway.

"The motorway is generally quiet at this time of the morning with commuter traffic but busier with heavy goods vehicles and we are keen to hear from any driver or operator who had vehicles in the area around this time."
