Al Tajir business fined after accident

A business owned by Scotland's richest man has been fined £35,000 after a worker was injured in an accident.

Wanda Lustig said she had been laughed at when she raised safety concerns at Blackford Farm in Perthshire.

Ms Lustig, a farm worker, fell into an unguarded chain machine in a grain byre and suffered significant leg injuries.

The company, which is owned by Maher Mahdi Al Tajir, admitted a series of health and safety breaches at Perth Sheriff Court.

A Health and Safety Executive report discovered open edges from which people could fall, dangerously exposed machinery and poorly maintained and blocked pathways.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told the court: "The circumstances could easily have been avoided.

"The ultimate beneficiary of any profit will be the Al Tajir family.

"With all due respect to them, they will not be struggling for the odd pound or two, without being flippant."
