Dundee pensioner falls through rotten floor

An elderly woman has been taken to hospital after falling four feet through a rotten floor at her home.

The woman was injured after falling into a basement on Dalkeith Road in Dundee at 18:20 on Wednesday.

A Tayside fire service spokesman said firefighters used a sledgehammer to remove a broken slab so they could reach the woman.

She was given first aid before being freed and taken to Ninewells Hospital.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "Three firefighters and one paramedic were in the basement with the woman and she was lifted to the ground floor on a scoop stretcher."

The ambulance service were called to the scene by police.
