Man killed while tree felling in Angus named as John Phillips

A man who was killed while felling trees on a farm in Angus has been named by police.

John Phillips, 29, of Balkeerie, Forfar, was crushed by a tree in woodland near Auchindorie Farm in Westmuir, near Kirriemuir.

Tayside Police said Mr Phillips, a woodcutter, had been working when the accident happened at about 13:45 on Thursday.

The alarm was raised by a fellow worker.

It is understood farm equipment was used to free Mr Phillips but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tayside Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched a joint investigation into the incident.
