Girlfriend of former SPL footballer faces benefit fraud charges

The girlfriend of a former SPL footballer has been accused of fraudulently claiming £23,000 worth of benefits.

Charlene Buist, the partner of ex-Dundee United captain Garry Kenneth, is charged with claiming benefits she was not entitled to while living with the defender between 2009 and 2012.

The 26-year-old is accused of repeatedly lying on claim forms to obtain taxpayers' money.

The case was continued until April.

Ms Buist, from Bristol, was not at Dundee Sheriff Court to face the six charges.

Her solicitor, David Duncan, asked that the case be continued without plea for three weeks.
