Man faces jail after forcing children to shoplift

A man is facing jail after admitting that he forced three girls to steal from a supermarket.

Christopher Diamond admitted making the girls steal from the Asda store in Milton of Craigie, Dundee.

It was revealed the girls, aged 13, 16 and 17, stole groceries and stationery from the supermarket.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard Diamond also made off with cosmetics and beauty products. Sentence was deferred until next month.

Diamond, 49, from Perth, pleaded guilty to a charge of theft by shoplifting, aggravated by involving children in the offence.

Patrick O'Dea, defending, said: "It may seem on the face of it that there's not too much to this - but there's a significant involvement of children.

"This is a case where a comprehensive and careful narration of the facts is required."

Sheriff Elizabeth Munro deferred sentence for a social work background report until next month.
