Councillors have approved plans in principle to build 800 new houses on the western edge of Sauchie, Clackmannanshire.

The plans were given the go-ahead based on a number of conditions, including the build of a new primary school.

The development is likely to see an investment exceeding £100m, according to Clackmannanshire Council officials.

Plans for the site, near Branshill Road, were lodged by Allan Water Developments.

Enterprise and environment convenor Donald Balsillie said he was "pleased with the significant development" and that about 200 of the homes will be in the category of "affordable housing".
