A herd of cows has been blamed for knocking out the power to almost 800 homes near Dundee.

The lights went out at 775 houses to the north of Broughty Ferry on Sunday morning due to cattle rubbing themselves against an electricity pole, bringing down the line.

A spokeswoman for Scottish and Southern Energy's power distribution arm said the problem was quickly traced.

Engineers restored power to all of the affected properties within two hours.
