Family of four killed in Polmont car and lorry crash

Crash scene Police officers closed the road to allow for investigation work to be carried out

A West Lothian couple and their young son and daughter have been killed in a road crash near Polmont.

The family's Fiat car was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry on the A801, near the Lathallan roundabout where it joins with the M9 at about 14:20 on Wednesday.

Police said the children were both under the age of three.

Emergency services cordoned off the scene, with the A801 closed between Lathallan and Bowhouse.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service sent crews from Falkirk, Bo'ness and Larbert.

The lorry driver was not hurt in the crash.

Officers investigating the collision have asked for witnesses to contact them.

Supt Iain Murray said: "This was a tragic collision which sadly killed all occupants of the car.

"We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this crash, or who has information that can help, so that we can piece together the circumstances.

"We are particularly keen to trace a silver people carrier which was seen near to the site of the crash."
