A kids' karate instructor caught with nearly 3,000 images of child abuse has been jailed for two years and four months.

David McAusland, 50, of Dundee, will also be supervised for four years after his release.

He had pleaded guilty at Dundee Sheriff Court to distributing the pictures to other paedophiles using special file-sharing software.

Sheriff Elizabeth Munro said: "It is very distressing for all involved."

Images and videos found at McAusland's home featured children as young as six being abused.

The court had heard he taught martial arts to children aged five and upwards before his arrest.

Sheriff Munro said: "You are obviously a decent man in many ways but this is so serious that there has to be a custodial sentence."
