An 87-year-old man drove a 4x4 the wrong way across the Tay Road Bridge.

The pensioner made it right across the 1.4 mile bridge south from Dundee to Fife despite being in the northbound carriageway amid morning traffic on Sunday.

The bridge control room alerted police, who stopped the man's Volkswagen Touareg near Newport-on-Tay at about 10:00.

He has been reported to the procurator fiscal for road traffic offences.
