A merger between two local firms will create one of Scotland's largest accountancy companies, based in Dundee.

EQ Accountants LLP of Dundee is to join forces with Carters of Glenrothes from April 2015.

The merged firm will have offices in Dundee, Forfar, Glenrothes and Cupar, employing more than 100 staff including 16 partners.

No redundancies will be made as a result of the move, which will increase EQ's annual turnover from £4m to £6m.

EQ was created through a merger in 2004 and employs 70 staff in Dundee and Forfar, specialising particularly in tax service and planning.

Carters can trace its roots back 50 years and is a leading firm in Fife in acting for professional firms, farmers and manufacturing businesses.

'Endless benefits'

David Cameron, managing partner of EQ, said the combined firm would look to grow further and recruit into a range of positions in future.

He said: "It is vital in any business to continue to move forward, and to reinvigorate on a regular basis.

"Accountancy is no different, and at EQ we continually strive to lead the marketplace.

"The potential benefits generated by amalgamating with Carters are endless."

Stephen Taylor, managing partner at Carters, added: "The merger is being made from a position of strength, with two very successful practices coming together to create both an exciting and professional accountancy firm which will help our clients meet their business objectives and achieve even greater success."
