Police officers 'attacked by shoplifter' in Stirling

Two police officers have been injured after being attacked by a suspected shoplifter in Stirling.

The male and female constables had detained the 18-year-old man after being called out to a shop at about 00.40 on Sunday.

Police said the teenager "struggled violently" with the officers and assaulted both of them.

The male officer suffered an injured ankle, while the female officer sustained a hand injury.

The 18-year-old was charged and was due to appear in court.

Insp Kenny McAndrew said: "One member of the public assisted in restraining the male until additional officers arrived and we are keen for this man to come forward and assist with our inquiry.

"In addition, it is believed there were a number of people taking photos and videos on their phones and I would ask anyone who believes they may have footage which captures the incident to also come forward."
