Electric wheelchair man, 80, killed in bin lorry crash

An 80-year-old man has died after his electric wheelchair collided with a bin lorry in Stirlingshire.

The pensioner was injured in the crash at about 10:00 on Wednesday at Sheriffmuir, near Dunblane.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene on Sheriffmuir Road, but the man later died.

Officers are examining the circumstances and have appealed for witnesses to come forward. Stirling Council is also investigating.

Robert Steenson, director of housing and environment at the council, said: "I can confirm that a council vehicle was involved in a fatal incident with a pedestrian in Sheriffmuir yesterday.

"Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to the victim's family at this difficult time.

"We are working closely with colleagues at Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive to investigate this tragic incident. We will also carry out our own internal investigation."
