Police are searching for a masked gunman who robbed a village petrol station in Clackmannanshire.

The man made off with cash from the filling station on Main Street West in Menstrie after threatening a member of staff with a gun at about 22:00 on Sunday.

The robber was described as being white, in his 20s, about 5ft 8in tall, and was wearing a black balaclava, a black padded jacket and grey trousers.

Officers have appealed for witnesses.

The robber walked off in a westerly direction along Main Street West following the raid.

Insp Charlie Mitchell said the lone member of staff working in the station at the time was uninjured, but was left "extremely shaken".

He said: "This was a brazen theft from a community petrol station and thankfully, incidents of this nature are extremely rare.

"Nevertheless we are treating this very seriously and currently have high-visibility patrols in the area to engage with the public to offer reassurance."
