Police probe after Falkirk chip shop damaged in fire

Police are investigating a deliberate fire at a chip shop in Falkirk.

Fire crews were called to the shop on Callendar Road at about 02:30, and managed to extinguish the flames before they could spread to neighbouring properties.

The blaze caused "extensive" damage to the shop's interior.

Police believe the fire was started deliberately and have launched a joint investigation with the fire service. Officers have appealed for witnesses.

Sgt David Ferguson said: "This shop sits in a row of shops so had emergency services not attended quickly this incident could have been much worse.

"Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact us immediately to help us further our inquiries."
