Police are investigating a hit and run after a cyclist was seriously injured by a car near Stirling.

The 51-year-old was knocked off his bike by a car on the C9 Roman Road by Plean at 19:55 on Friday, and was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital.

The dark-coloured car was travelling from Dunipace towards Plean and failed to stop following the incident at the junction with Cadgers Loan.

Police are investigating and have appealed for witnesses.

Sgt Andrew Thomson, from the divisional road policing unit, said: "I am keen to hear from anyone who was using the Roman Road or Cadgers Loan near to the village of Plean around the time of the collision.

"The cyclist suffered some painful injuries and the driver of the other vehicle failed to stop.

"Anyone who can help us trace this driver or who has information that can assist with our ongoing inquiries is asked to come forward."
