Two women will be reported to the procurator fiscal after a severely malnourished dog was found dumped in a bin in Dundee.

The male pointer crossbreed was discovered in Dundonald Street on 15 April by a member of the public putting out rubbish.

The dog, which was also dehydrated and unable to stand, was taken to a vet who made the decision to put it to sleep.

The Scottish SPCA said two people were traced in connection with the incident.

Insp Clare Anderson said: "Following our investigation, two females from Dundee will be reported to the procurator fiscal for alleged offences under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006, relating to the abandonment and unnecessary suffering of a dog.

"We would like to thank members of the public for their assistance with our appeal for information."
