Funding pledge for Dundee cycling
At least 5% of future council spending on roads and transportation in Dundee should go towards cycling and walking, the local authority has proposed.
A permanent cycling development officer post would also be created if the planned cycling strategy for the city is adopted.
A draft cycling strategy was issued for a public consultation last year.
The proposed commitment on funding was highlighted by a number of respondents as an "encouraging step forward."
Bill Campbell, depute convener of the council's city development committee said: "This document comes as the culmination of a considerable amount of consultation, discussion and engagement with cyclists across the city.
"The strategy recognises the importance that the council places on cycling as a regular form of travel and exercise for many people and looks to ensure that is developed in future years."
The new post would initially be part-funded from external sources, including Cycling Scotland and the Scottish government's Smarter Choices Smarter Places fund.
