Police have started an investigation into a fatal fire which destroyed a caravan used by migrant workers on a Tayside farm.

Officers confirmed there had been a fatality in the incident at Mains of Errol farm, between Perth and Dundee.

The fire service are also investigating the blaze, which broke out in the early hours of Sunday.

The site has dozens of caravans used by workers who pick strawberries on the farm on the banks of the River Tay.

A major incident command unit has been parked across the entrance to the site as inquiries continue.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said inquiries were at an early stage, adding that a further update would be issued when next of kin had been informed.
