A major search for a teenager who is believed to have fallen from cliffs at Arbroath in Angus has been extended.

A coastguard helicopter, four coastguard rescue teams and two RNLI lifeboats have been involved in the search for the 18-year-old.

The operation began after he was reported missing at 13:00 on Saturday.

After nothing was found on Sunday morning, police said they were extending the search up and and down the coastline.

Ch Insp David McIntosh said: "Immediate coastline searches at Arbroath cliffs have been carried out this morning involving coastguard and lifeboat teams.

"Moving forward today, the search parameters will be widened as we extend our operation further up and down the coastline.

"We remain in close contact with his family at this very difficult time. Anyone with information should contact police on 101."
