A Dundee mother-of-three carried a £1m-winning National Lottery ticket in her handbag for weeks before checking her numbers.

Shaheen Akhtar, 31, won the Lotto Millionaire Raffle on 12 April, but only recently realised her good fortune.

She said she "couldn't believe her luck" after scooping the prize.

Mrs Akhtar said she and her husband could now afford a bigger home where the children can have their own rooms.

The family are also planning a trip to Dubai.

Mrs Akhtar said: "I came home and started to call my family to let them know the good news.

"Most of them were in disbelief and asked things like 'are you mad?'.

"Once I explained that I really had won everyone was really happy for me."
