Investigation into inmate's death at Cardiff Prison

South Wales Police are investigating what they describe as the sudden death of a 30-year-old inmate at Cardiff Prison.

David Bounds, 30, from Merthyr Tydfil, was discovered unconscious in his cell on Sunday morning.

Paramedics were called but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is not being treated as suspicious, but inquiries are ongoing, including toxicology tests to determine the cause.

A Prison Service spokesman said the prisons and probation ombudsman would conduct an investigation, as is the case with all deaths in custody.

Next of kin have been informed.
