A 47-year-old man has been remanded in custody until 8 April, accused of murdering an 89-year-old woman.

George Norman Johnson, of Rhyl, Denbighshire, was arrested after the body of Florence May Habesch was found in her semi-detached home in the town.

Police believe Mrs Habesch died last Sunday.

There was no application for bail at Caernarfon Crown Court. It followed an earlier hearing on Friday at Llandudno Magistrates Court.

An inquest opened earlier in the week heard that Mrs Habesch died from a "blunt force" head injury.

A family tribute to Mrs Habesch described her as a "private, respected lady who had many people that cared for her and who will miss her dearly".
