Woman, 50, rescued in Elan Valley reservoir drama

A 50-year-old woman has been taken to hospital after she was rescued from a reservoir in Powys.

It is understood she was in the water at the Caban Coch Reservoir close to the Elan Valley visitor centre, near Rhayader, at around 0900 GMT.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said she was taken to Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth suffering from hypothermia.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the woman was pulled out of the water unhurt at 0920 GMT.

The ambulance service said it was called to Caban Coch dam shortly after 0900 GMT, where a "50-year-old woman had been in the water for 40 minutes and was hypothermic".

Mid and West Wales Fire Service sent two rescue boats from Llanidloes and Hay-on-Wye to the scene, but the woman was rescued before they arrived.
