Fire on Flint Mountain forces evacuation of villagers

Some villagers were evacuated from their homes while fire crews tackle a blaze involving conifer trees and rubbish in Flintshire.

Northop Road on Flint Mountain was closed amid concerns that gas cylinders might be in the burning rubbish.

The alarm was raised shortly before 1400 BST on Thursday and crews from Flint, Deeside, Mold and Wrexham were at the scene.

An incident command unit from Rhyl was also in attendance.

The fire broke out in a domestic garden in the grounds of The Mountain Park Hotel and spread to nearby conifer trees.

Fire crews brought the blaze under control by 1700 BST and were cooling a number of cylinders found on site.
