Police have been granted extra time to question a 25-year-old man and a woman, 23, on suspicion of the murder of a 60-year-old man in Newport.

The body of the man, who police believe was assaulted and might have been run over in the street, was found in Broad Steet, Pill early on Saturday.

A 19-year-old man has been released on police bail.

Officers questioning the man and woman, who are local, were granted the extra time by a superintendent on Monday.

Det Supt Paul Griffiths, who is leading the investigation, said it was "vital" that anyone driving in the Broad Street area between 02:00 and 04:00 BST on Saturday contact him via the 101 telephone service.

Two men, aged 22 and 44, and two women, 18 and 46, have been released on police bail after questioning over suspected driving offences.

They were arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless and inconsiderate driving and failure to report a road traffic collision.
