Betsi Cadwaladr shuts community hospital units for winter

Help

Health officials in north Wales are temporarily shutting some community hospital services to help larger hospitals cope with the pressures of winter.

A ward will be closed at Ysbyty Bryn Beryl in Pwllheli, as well as the minor injuries units in Ruthin, Colwyn Bay and Flint.

The Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board says the changes will allow it to boost services at general hospitals such as Glan Clwyd and Ysbyty Gwynedd.

Similar measures are also being taken in Pembrokeshire by the Hywel Dda Local Health Board. Roger Pinney reports.
