Murder inquiry after woman's body found in Llanllwni, Carmarthenshire

Police have cordoned off the house where the body was found

Police say the death of a 67-year-old woman at a house in Carmarthenshire is being treated as murder.

Officers said a number of "individuals" were in custody and helping detectives with their inquiries.

The body of the woman was found in a house on the Bryndulais estate in Llanllwni, near Llanybydder, on Monday.

The property has been cordoned off and a forensic science unit tent has been set up in the street while investigations continue.

Detectives were seen emerging from the property on Tuesday morning.

Linda Davies-Evans, a county councillor for Llanfihangel-ar-Arth, described the woman, who has not been named, as a "a well liked and independent lady" who had lived in Bryndulais for many years.

She said: "This is a shock to us all. This is a tragic incident to have happened in this quiet community in which everybody knows each other.

"It is a sad time for her family and friends and I send my deepest condolences to them all."

In a joint statement local MP Jonathan Edwards and assembly member Rhodri Glyn Thomas said they were deeply saddened.

"We understand this will be a very challenging time for the community as it comes to terms with this devastating news," they said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with family, friends and neighbours at this sad time".

In a statement, Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed they were dealing with a murder enquiry in the Llanllwni area.

The statement said: "We currently have individuals in custody who are helping with enquiries.

"Police are still in the process of contacting family members to confirm formal identification of the victim."
