Car driver hurt in Carmarthenshire crash with tractor

The driver of a car which collided with the rear of a tractor was cut free and airlifted to hospital after the crash on the A40 in Carmarthenshire.

The road was closed for several hours while three fire crews freed the man, who suffered face and chest injuries.

The crash, west of the B4312 to Johnstown, Carmarthen, happened shortly before 14:40 GMT on Monday.

The driver, said to be in his 40s, is in a stable condition at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

The westbound carriageway of the road was closed until 16:30 GMT to allow the air ambulance to land.

Mid and West Fire and Rescue Service said two crews from Carmarthen and one from Whitland attended the scene.
