Police are continuing to question a 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a 67-year-old woman was found in a Carmarthenshire village.

Irene Lawless was found dead at her home, where she lived alone, at Llanllwni on Monday.

Two other men, aged 20 and 30, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Ms Lawless has been described as a "well liked and independent lady".

She had lived on the Bryndulais estate for many years, according to Linda Davies-Evans, a county councillor for Llanfihangel-ar-Arth.

Cllr Davies-Evans added: "This is a shock to us all.

"This is a tragic incident to have happened in this quiet community in which everybody knows each other."

The property was cordoned off and a forensic science unit tent was set up following the discovery of the body on Monday.
