Newgale beach Pembrokeshire woman airlifted from tide

An RAF rescue helicopter has winched a woman to safety after she was cut off by the tide on a Pembrokeshire beach.

Coastguards received a 999 call at 16:14 GMT reporting the woman in difficulty on a rock at the northern end of Newgale Beach.

Littlehaven RNLI inshore lifeboat, coastguard teams from Broadhaven and St David's and the helicopter from RAF Chivenor in Devon were called in.

The 49 year-old local woman was flown to Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest.

She was said to be very cold but otherwise uninjured.

Coastguards said a spring tide meant that the sea rose faster and higher than usual.
