Warning as fishermen lost in fog near Southerndown

Coastguards are urging people to take care due to high seasonal tides and thick fog around the coast of south Wales after a call to help two anglers.

The men, who had been out fishing overnight, became lost on the shoreline near Monknash Beach around 05:00 GMT.

The Porthcawl and Atlantic College lifeboats were launched and coastguards from Llantwit Major responded.

The anglers who were from Swansea were located at cliffs near Southerndown and led to safety.

A spokesman for Swansea Coastguard Station, which coordinated the rescue, said there were high seasonal tides at the moment.

Coupled with thick fog he said it could easily lead to people getting into trouble and urged fishermen, walkers and other coastal users to take extra care.
