The funeral of Surrey cricketer Tom Maynard has taken place in his home city of Cardiff, at Llandaff Cathedral followed by Thornhill Crematorium
Well-known names paid their respects among 1,000 mourners, including England cricketer Andrew Flintoff [L] and comedian and actor Jack Whitehall
Former England captain Mike Gatting [L] and current skipper Andrew Strauss heard eulogies from Hugh Morris, managing director of England Cricket and a former Glamorgan captain, the player's uncle, Charles Maynard, and Glamorgan cricket captain Mark Wallace. Strauss said after the service: "Today is also about celebrating him. It's hard to say goodbye."
Among many cricketing greats was former England captain and wicket keeper Alec Stewart, who played for Tom Maynard's county, Surrey
Those attending, including England cricketer Kevin Pietersen (pictured), heard Hugh Morris, managing director of England Cricket and a former Glamorgan captain, tell mourners at Llandaff Cathedral: "The presence of so many members of the cricket community tells me Tom was not only a player blessed with extraordinary talent, but somebody whose sense of fun and enjoyment made him a hugely popular figure within our game."
Marcus Trescothick was another England cricketer who attended. Famous names from other sports paying their respects included Wales rugby great Gareth Edwards, Welsh boxer Nicky Piper and England rugby player Danny Cipriani
