Remploy confirms Croespenmaen factory closure

Remploy factory bosses says one of its remaining Welsh factories will close in a month's time.

The company said it has failed to find a commercial buyer for the factory at Croespenmaen in Caerphilly county, which employs 44 people.

Meanwhile, bosses have asked for further clarification on bids to take over its factory at Bridgend which employs 45.

It plans to make a final decision on its future next week.

Remploy ran seven factories in Wales. Sites in Aberdare, Abertillery, Merthyr Tydfil, Wrexham and Swansea, employed 189 people before their closure.

The UK government has claimed the £320m budget for disabled employment services could be better spent.

The Welsh government has announced a £2.4m scheme for employers who give jobs to former Remploy workers for at least four years.
