Death of man at Ailesbury Street, Newport, 'not suspicious'

Police say they are not treating the death of a 60-year-old man found at his home as suspicious.

The man, 60, was discovered by police at the property in Ailesbury Street at 14:20 BST on Tuesday.

Gwent Police said officers had previously called there twice earlier that day after reports of a burglary.

Police said a 15-year-old from Newport and a 14-year-old from Cwmbran have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and are in custody.

The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Gwent Police said they were called to the address at 04:20 BST on Tuesday after reports of a burglary.

Officers received no response either then or when they revisited the property at around 08:00 BST that morning.

The 60-year-old man was then discovered dead by police at his home at approximately 14:20 BST.

The force said an investigation was under way to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.

Gwent Police said: "Following the initial post mortem findings, Gwent Police can confirm that they are not treating the death of the 60-year-old man found deceased in Ailesbury Street as suspicious.

"A 15-year-old from Newport and a 14-year-old from Cwmbran have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and are currently in custody."
