Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall visit Hay Festival

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have attended the opening day of the Hay Literary Festival in Powys.

The royals met traders and shopkeepers in Hay-on-Wye as the town hosted its annual gathering of authors, politicians and celebrities.

Washington journalist Carl Bernstein is one of the big names lined up, along with spy novelist John le Carre and comedy actress Miranda Hart.

Prince Charles will later attend an opera in Cardiff.

BBC Wales arts correspondent Huw Thomas reports.
