A main road in the south Wales valleys closed after a large hole appeared in the middle of the carriageway has reopened following emergency repairs.

Highways officials had put diversions in place on Monday on the A4061 Rhigos Mountain Road which links Treherbert to Hirwaun near Aberdare.

Rhondda Cynon Taf council said traffic measures were now in place to allow vehicles to pass.

Restrictions are expected to be lifted on Wednesday when repairs are complete.
