Gareth Bale: Welsh roots of record-breaking footballer

Gareth Bale has become the world's most expensive footballer after signing a deal with Real Madrid for £85m.

Cardiff-born Bale, 24, joined Spurs for £10m from Southampton in 2007 and scored 26 goals for the side last term.

He was named player of the year by the Professional Footballers' Association and Football Writers last season.
