Helicopter rescues boy, 7, from Snowdonia ledge

27 August 2013 Last updated at 19:28 BST

An RAF helicopter crew has rescued a seven-year-old boy stuck on a Snowdonia grassy cliff ledge in darkness.

The youngster was with a group of people from Manchester on Cader Idris.

The group had split into two, with people in each assuming the boy was with the other group.

There were fears the boy would try to grab the RAF winchman before he had secured himself on the steep crag face but the youngster was soon lifted to safety.

The infrared camera footage of the rescue is courtesy of the RAF.
